Re: JPEG2000 might be another option?

Hi, forgive me if I intrude in this thread, but... What about JPEG2000 support, would that be another option? I get 12 bits per colour channel from my Canon digital camera, but JPEGs truncates them to 8 bits. I'd love to be able to store the images in a 16 bit format, but TIFFs are just too bulky. ...

Thanks for you quick reply. After I followed up on the article cited I learned that the image must be acquired using very special hardware which ensures that the image is sampled randomly. For anyone interested in the entire technical details the following link will take you there. (note page works ...

New Mathematical Methodology using Sparsity

Please read the entire article. Could you use this technique to recover poorly sampled/noisy images?

Masking in Neat Image

With all due respect to the OP, I find the Photoshop interface and ease of use just about the best of any of the many programs that I have used (which includes a lot). Certainly Photoshop is expensive, but PS Elements which is quite affordable is very capable. I would suggest that having a brush fea...

A very modest workflow improvement for Neat Image Plugin

Before running Neat Image in Photoshop I always make a new layer of my photo. This makes it super easy to compare the entire before and after picture plus it allows me to reduce the amount of NR by lowering the opacity of the noise reduced image if I like before merging the layers. In addition I mig...

Plans to use GPU processing for NeatImage calculations?

Would it make for faster processing for NeatImage calculations to use the GPU (if video card is reasonably up to date and powerful) rather than using the CPU? In addition to Photoshop CS4, other programs such as Media Viewer Pictomio are harnessing the power of GPUs. This is clearly a trend as incre...

Photoshop CS4

Also please be aware that the GPU acceleration has been a problem for a lot of CS4 users. Only the newest NVidia and ATI Radeon video adapters appear to be compatible, and of those 512Mb of video RAM appears to be required for full implementation. Will your 64bit (and possibly even newer 32bit) vers...

Support for Photoshop CS4 64 bit

For heavy duty users 64 bit versions of Win XP (small hardy group of users) and Vista 64bit Photoshop CS4 64bit proves to be a performance champ when used with 8Gb RAM or more. As you know, none of the 32bit plugins work with the 64 bit version of CS4 (other than ones built in by Adobe). Are you wor...

Photoshop CS2 book for Beginners?

Since I've used PShop for quite some time I'm not sure I can best judge if the book I'm about to recommend is the best one for total beginners to Photoshop, but I suspect that since it is very well written with very good examples and clear writing it may in fact be good. Don't be put off by the shee...

Upscaling in PShop

Someone showed me a book which says that the Bicubic in PShop CS2 (Image Size) which is the default is NOT the best one to use.

Use the Bicubic Sharper choice instead.

Pro Plus

I find the PShop plugin edition far more useful because you can run Neat Image on just one layer. For example if you want smooth skin on face only, but not the hair, you can select it, copy into a layer and do the noise reduction and avoid smoothing the hair. In other words all of the power of Photo...

Extrapolation -Up scaling

I'm afraid I don't remember the article -it was a technical paper that compared 6-10 methods (4 or 5 types of bicubic, Fractal, etc.) and showed up-scaled samples of each. I think I remember a number of reviews saying that Fractal was hardly better than some freebies. In fact it is claimed that IrFa...

Neat Image is GREAT

I have used Neat Image for about 2 years and it gets better and better with each version. ABSoft is one of the very few software companies that actually elicits and makes use of user feedback. They implement the more valuable suggestion quite rapidly. Furthermore, the cost of updates is nothing at a...

Upsampling

It seem to me that for anyone interested in upsampling photos, reducing the noise first is a very helpful step.

Based on various reviews I have read the bicubic upsampling in the more recent versions of Photoshop are pretty good, as good as most stand alone programs.

New Masking Program Challenge for ABSoft Programmers

Back several a years ago I put up a poll asking people if they would be interested in the makers of Neat Image developing a better masking (extracting) program. Few people bothered to give us their input. Too bad. Perhaps it is considered too difficult so few people think it is useful for them. Time...
