Almost always, a selection drawn by hand works perfectly. In a few cases, an exact 128x128 selection is desirable, when I am really scrounging for just one optimally useable featureless area, and two pixels' width might make the difference. If 128x128 won't work anywhere on the photo, then I hand-dr...

manual profiling: minimum selection button

A small thing, but it would be nice to have a button or menu item that would generate a minimum selection box for using in manual rough profiling. Currently I start the auto-profiler and then stop it in order to get a ready-made, moveable 128x128 selection.

More controls would indeed solve the problem. However I am not sure a larger control set would look nice and be easy to use. After looking closer at my workflow, I agree. I don't believe it takes any more time to do 2 faster passes (setting one or two channels at 0%, as you recommend) than it would...

wood grain detail

Many of my photos are closeups of unpainted woodwork, and it appears that to preserve the most detail in wood grain, two passes work best: first pass for the Cr/Cb components and 2nd pass for Y component. The reason for this being, in the low- and mid-frequency range the noise level/reduction settin...

First of all, my apologies for posting this in the wrong forum. Should have gone to Using Neat Image. Thanks Vlad, Yes sometimes I can find suitable non-clipped areas as you suggest. Other times, mostly on outdoor shots where bright blue sky provides the only featureless areas for sampling, a...

how to fix clipping w/o mangling?

What would be the best method to prepare images for NI processing, to eliminate the clipping warnings and still best preserve the original data?

Thanks, & good work on v.5 !

Second that! I use the component viewer a lot and when comparing Cr reduction on several selections for instance, it would be good if the viewer stayed with Cr until I tell it to do otherwise.

I would like to add my vote to this also. I store all files as LZW tiffs and it would be nice to open/save them as such from NI.

Why not shoot a calibration target (following the directions provided in the documentation) at the same settings as your sky shot, and use that to develop a profile? Taob, for that shot I used my old Kodak DC240 which captures amazing color, but the ISO is automatic and can't be pre-set. I did find...

Andewid -- if you're still around, could you detail the multi-step procedure you used? Did you filter frequencies or channels seperately, how many stages etc. This looks valuable. I have to photograph a lot of wood grain, walnut paneling, mahogany etc. and it drives me cross-eyed trying to preserve ...

PSP7 & plug-in

I am considering purchase of the plug-in, and wondered if anyone is using it successfully in Paint Shop Pro 7. The specs say they're compatible but I'd feel more confident with some testimony. :)

Noise profile from assembled selections?

The Problem: Many scattered areas of featureless sky, none large enough to allow a rough profile, but several ok to use for manual fine-tuning. The Madcap Idea: Copy and paste together several such areas to assemble a 100x100 sample image (with an absolute bare-minimum of cloning), then load it into...
