I have made tests filtering (very noisy) interlaced videos from old VHS tapes. It's possible just to ignore the interlacing and let NV filter the video. According to my tests, the result were not bad. Anyway, the filtered video looks much better than the original. But if the individual oven and odd ...

Interlaced video
How are interlaced frames handled in NV? Do I have to separate fields before filtering and weave them back after filtering?

I do not agree with RAYWEB when he says that the manual is too complicated. I think the manual describes the basic things quite well. What I need is more video-related information. Especillay, the Neat Video Configuration dialog is not explained at all in the manual. What kind of the temporal filter...

Video preview
My suggestion for partial rendering is related to the need to have some sort of "video preview" in NV. The preview of a single frame is ok, it comes directly from NI. But in which way the user could immediately (or at least easily) see how the filtering affects the video? Currently, one ha...

Removing the noise only in a part of the frame
Yesterday I was testing how NV handles clips that origin from VHS tapes. The results were overall good. Calibration was a bit tricky, but I return back to this subject later on. Because I have (so far) only the demo version (VirtualDub plugin), NV removed the noise from the top 2/3 of the 720*576 fr...

Variable gain - variable noise
Video cameras contain an automatic gain control. In low-light conditions the gain becomes very high, and the noise usually becomes visible. NV is capable of removing, or at least reducing the noise considerably. This is possible if the calibration is made using the same gain as the processed clip. B...

Cleaning s2 is videoclips
I'll share my experiences on cleaning up low light video clips taken with Powershot s2 IS. The noise in the clips is normally tolerable, but in low light the gain gets very high and so does the noise. Earlier I have tried to clean my video clips with AviSynth -tools, but failed. The problem is the l...
