Re: AI denoise

The limit has been reached with how many original details you can keep. Nobody cares anymore about mathematical purity but quality.

AI denoise

Topaz Labs has recently been releasing some very interesting tools like AI resize, AI adjust, AI denoise and so on, mostly for photos but they are starting to support videos too. Will NeatVideo be competing against these AI programs? I cant imagine NeatVideo ever becoming outdated but it might happe...

In most cases, inability to select a larger area is due to the fact that the video is already a small resolution. Many times I'm lucky with a 320x240 video because there's a scene with a flat area covering the entire frame so right away I get 256x240 noise profile but a lot of times I can't. So very...

You misunderstood, I'm suggesting to make the process automated. No need for a user to browse the library manually. He selects an area on the (unsuitable) frame and NV compares his selection to the best match in the noise profile library. So instead of having a 30x50 profile, he now has a 256x256 pr...

Generic noise samples

I haven't upgraded to new 4.6 yet but I have a suggestion to take the generic noise samples to another level if you haven't already done so. Make a huge library of generic noise samples (perhaps let users submit them as long as they're at least 90% quality) and when a user tries to select a noise sa...

From what I understand, NV works in RGB32 which is 32-bit no?

I actually noticed increased banding since 4.5 too but it could just be a coincidence. I need to test it on more samples to be sure.
At least 4.5 fixed all the other problems that were introduced in 4.0. Profiling and finetuning works great now.

I've made it uniform, see the previous image I uploaded. I know the basics of Neat Video, I've been using it 3 years before your join date. :P What puzzles me is why this proper noise profile fails to properly remove the noise yet the less accurate lighter profile does the job a lot better. This has...

Fine, I equalized the frame. This better? http://i66.tinypic.com/2195qvo.png The darker area looks sufficiently noisy and uniform. In fact, noise level is higher for the dark area as well as the profile quality. Exactly what I'm saying but then I'm missing half the spectrum. This contradicts the adv...

The darker area contains sharper noise and I can't get as high values with the light area.

But I can't auto profile twice, I can only do that with the initial selection but I need two because the first one is too dark while the second one is missing the darks.

The auto profiler only selects a 64x64 area and it gets a lower value than the one I found, not to mention that the lighter parts have somewhat weaker noise than the darker area.

Finetuning lowers values

My initial noise sample was too dark so I looked around the video for a lighter spot and I found one. When I selected the area, yellow boxes lit up which I understand means that this is a good area to pick. When I press fine-tune the values in channel components, frequency components etc. go up so t...
