I would like to be able to add some luma noise back without adding the chroma noise as well.

Thank you. Please consider it. NV2 deals with these difficult areas perfectly. Hopefully something can be done.

Flickering / unstable filtration

There is a filtration issue I cannot get rid of in NV3 (and the NV4 demo). It involves areas of the image which lack texture or defined edges, e.g. out of focus background areas. The temporal filter seems unable to realise that these background areas are entirely static, even with a temporal radius ...

I always switch off spatial noise reduction but for temporal, the profile certainly has an effect. The 'noise level' settings (but apparently not the 'noise reduction amount' settings) also have an effect, though it seems to be subtle. E2a : the 'noise reduction amount' settings in fact do also slig...

The issue with the temporal filter is that with the threshold turned down, instead of seeing more unfiltered pixels, we see some kind of undocumented spatial filter applied, which kicks in wherever the temporal filter decides to leave a pixel unfiltered. Clearly it helps to reduce visible noise wher...

Artifacts with high threshold in Virtualdub

I have a VHS capture with some letterboxing at various places. I find an increased temporal threshold very useful with VHS (more-so than just increasing the radius) but I have found it leads to artifacts just underneath the upper black border. The artifacts shift from frame to frame and are quite ob...

Thanks for responding, Vlad. In NV2, switching off spatial filtering and reducing temporal filter threshold to -100 results in a frame which is identical to the input. This does not happen in NV3, the frame is clearly filtered by an undocumented spatial filter. I would like to be able to switch this...

Spatial filter within temporal filter

It seems that version 3 introduced a (very aggressive) 'hidden' spatial filter which is tied to the temporal filter and is separate from the switchable spatial filter in NV3. It can be seen in action by setting the switchable spatial filter to 0% and the temporal filter to it's lowest threshold, so ...

With regard to memory bandwidth, I asked in another thread whether it was worth shelling out for a setup with quad-channel memory. An Intel i7-3820 quad core cpu (with quad memory controller) and socket 2011 motherboard can be had for a semi-reasonable price. At what point does extra memory bandwidt...

Memory bandwidth / cost

I know you guys have mentioned more than once that system memory bandwidth is a very important factor in predicting performance of NV. A new PC build is in the back of my mind and I wanted to know if the expensive high-end motherboards (the ones with quad-channel memory) are worth paying for over re...

Left edge black border causes improper filtration

I have noticed an issue in Virtualdub NV ... if there is a black border of less than 16 pixels at the left of the frame, especially a hard edged border, it causes the temporal filter not to clean the left edge of the image. Even a one pixel wide black border disrupts filtration. The right hand edge ...

Adaptive filtration for interlaced video

Since interlaced filtering simply splits the video into 2 streams/fields, does NV vary its "adaptive filtration" independently for each field ? I ask because I have found that it is not unusual for old VHS tapes to have one field that is noisier than the other (even after the playback VCR ...

demo version update ?

I've observed the same issue in the Neat Video 3 demo, and am also using Virtualdub on XP (32bit) SP3. Neatvideo crashes after a few thousand frames (the actual number varies with each render), where Neat Video is the only filter, and I have tried two output codecs (HuffYUV and DivX) and with CUDA a...
