Thank you for your comments and suggestions! It seems, however, that implementing all these suggestions will amount to producing a new, specialized product to process astronomical images. - Users of digital cameras and scanners will hardly need FITS format. These devices usually do not have enough p...

phlegmatic,

Thank you for the suggestion as well. Yes, we will consider possible ways to implement a "comparison" feature. Maybe using popups, or with buttons.

Not yet. Currently Neat Image only runs on PCs, or in PC emulators (like VirtualPC on Mac). We are working on a new version, which will support Mac.

So, the only the problem will be to find space for two buttons then. :-)

Thank you for the suggestion, we will consider this feature.

Peter, Thank you for your kind words and suggestion. Yes, I more or less understand your idea and it resembles me something of another product.. don't remember its name. Anyway, why not use the filter presets for the purpose of comparison? - You can save one, two, .. as many as you like filter prese...

Say, 4:1:1 (standard) if quality level<85, 1:1:1 (no subsampling) if quality level>=85. Would it do?

It may be close to accurate profiles but using target with gradients is in principle incorrect as gradient are features. AFT may stay away from those or otherwise but the point is that such gradients shouldn't be given to NI as examples of featureless areas. Standard NI calibration target is pretty ...

After taking a look at the target you used to build these profiles, I am afraid they may be not very accurate. The problem with that target is that it contains a lot of gradients. Gradients are NOT featureless areas, gradient is a feature in itself. You could build good profiles with your target if ...

Neat Image is about noise reduction ;-) but we will consider 1:1:1 subsampling (automatic or manual), thank you for the suggestion.

I also tried to use very low freq box with the small sample above and it did help. Also, try to play with the noise levels and amount of filtration in color channels.

Yes, it is better to build separate profiles for JPEG and RAW/TIFF images, because JPEG image compression changes noise properties and TIFF doesn't.
