New user, how to train the eye for noise reduction

Post by MTNShootR »

I've used Lightroom and Photoshop for ages, but with better Hi-ISO performance dslrs, we're now shooting at ISO levels previously taboo.

I need to better adjust and train my creative eye to the nuances of noise filtration. How does one train their eye to notice and properly correct deviations in these kinds of noise:
Luminance noise
Color (chroma) noise
Banding noise
Salt-and-pepper (impulse) noise
Electronic interference noise
Film grain
JPEG artifacts
In-camera noise reduction artifacts

In most cases you will likely see just regular digital noise from the camera sensor and electronics. It is a typical mix of luminance and color noise. Other types of noise are less frequent when you work with modern DSLRs.

Perhaps the easiest way to train yourself would be to look up some examples of different noise only and possibly discuss those here. If you wish, you can include links to some online images in your post and then we could discuss the types of noise contained there.
