Profile set for Canon 6d: Tif from Acr 8 using ETTR

Post by l_d_allan »

Here's a link to the 3.2 MB .zip file for the Canon 6d camera with embedded noise examples:
http://www.canprint.org/Misc/140307_Can ... 102400.zip

The .tiff's were generated from ACR 8.3 as 16-bit ProPhoto color-space, uncompressed. Sliders for Basic, Clarity, Saturation, Vibrance, Sharpening, Noise Reduction, and Lens Correction were zero'ed / disabled. Pv2012.

ISO's included 1/3rd stops from the "Regular" 100 to 25,600, and Extended ISO's for 50, 51200, and 102400. This set includes ISO 200 and ISO 5000, which were inadvertently left out of the non-ETTR set posted earlier.

Canon 6d ETTR noise profiles
by Lynn Allan, March 7, 2014

A set of profiles for Canon 6d for uncompressed 16-bit TIF files, saved from the RAW .cr2 files by Adobe ACR 8.3.
The profiles were built using shots of the Calibration Target on a LCD monitor for the following: full size RAW 5472x3648 (21 Mpix), using ProPhoto RGB and 16-bit.
The images are somewhat over-exposed by about 2/3rd stop to accomplish ETTR.

Compared to the non-ETTR noise profiles, this set included ISO 200 and ISO 5000, which were inadvertantly left off that profile set.

For each file format and image size above, shots for all of the full stop ISO's and 1/3rd stop ISO's from 100 to 25,600 were made and used to build profiles.
There are also profiles for Extended ISO 50, ISO 51,200, and ISO 102,400.

RAW was used, so my understanding is that camera settings for Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation, Noise reduction, White balance don't apply.

Very little post processing was applied to the RAW .CR2 files.
The ACR 8.3 sliders for Basic, Clarity, Vibrance, Saturation, Noise, Sharpness were zero'ed. Lens corrections was disabled. Process Version 2012 was used.
My understanding is that a profile made from a .tif using ACR 8 would be equivalent to making a profile from a .nef RAW file opened in PhotoShop.

The base exposure was ISO 100, f5.6, 1/3th second with the 70-200 lens at 200mm, out of focus.

The file-naming excluded the Resolution and shutter speed. The Quality Factor was 100 for almost all profiles (16000=99, 1600=98, 51200=98),
so that was left off the file-naming.

These profiles should be good for both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of NeatImage.
Based on guidance from the NITeam, the noise samples are included in the profiles, which makes them larger.

Below are the reported Noise Levels for the Overall Profile. The ETTR set for each ISO is marginally lower than the non-ETTR value.
