Anyone recommend any audio denoiser as advanced as NeatVideo?

With adobe audition you can achieve a lot considering audio denoising.

There is a free audio editing program as well but I don't have experience with it: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I currently use Audacity, and it's good, but I also thought the same when I was using other denoisers for video because I have never experienced a REAL video cleaner like NV. Is Adobe Audition better than Audacity?

I don't think (but i may be wrong) that it could be possible
to have the same quality in audio than in video denoising.

Why ?
Because, in video, you have something you don't have
in audio, the fact that the same information is in several frames.
You have experimented it : Activating temporal filtration
greatly improve result, as it uses information from different
frames to "rebuild" the same objet. You have in video a
temporal correlation you don't have in audio.
In audio, the best you can achieve may be "the same"
thing as NV but WITHOUT temporal filtration.

This is why, unfortunately, i think you'll never be able to
get the same thing in audio than in video.

But, if i'm wrong, i'll be happy that someone demonstrate it.

Joran, thank you very much for the link. I downloaded and played around with the demo and I'm impressed with the user friendly interfaced and advanced tools. However... it's denoiser looks inferior to Audacity's refined denoiser. I like to reduce my noise so its completely inaudible, but if I do that with izotope then some non-noise details are gone, but Audacity preserves them if the noise isn't louder than the signal. Cant say this for sure, I will have to run comparisons. I also love how I can view the audio in spectographic view and engineer certain bands of the audio. I was able to isolate piano notes in one song (ok not perfectly) and was interesting to see that digital audio isn't so abstract after all. I wasn't able to isolate drums though, as it seems to cover all frequency bands, but it was interesting none the less.

Now that I've gotten this far, would I be pushing my luck by asking you what the best voice remover is?

jpsdr, I agree, audio is more abstract than video. Video has a 2D resolution, a color depth, framerate and so on. Audio only has amplitude and a sample rate. However, the sample rate can be considered the "temporal" aspect in audio, but still not the same thing in video. I'm not saying there can be such thing as NeatAudio, but wanted to know the best audio cleaner out there. Also, in the future when A.I becomes big, I think we will have even better video/audio cleaners. We shall see.

You can take a look at Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio, that comes with at a Vocal Eraser plug-in (also from iZotope).

You can download a free trial of Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio (but I do not know if the Vocal Eraser plug-in will work in the trial version). I use the profession version of Sony Sound Forge.

I do not find the Vocal Eraser plug-in on iZotope's web page.

About audacity, i just like to know if the noise removing is included
in the program, or if it's in some pluggins ?

It's included, but there are also plug-ins. The one I use is built-in, and it's really good.

Joran, I already have a license for Sound Forge pro so I will look into the vocal eraser plugin. However, I don't expect too much because I looked at several songs in spectrogram view in izotope and see the human voice is very complex. It consists of multiple bands so it must be really hard to identify. But thats not how most vocal removers work, they just subtract left and right channels since voice is mostly in the middle, but if its not...

Hello.

I've made a test off noise removal a 10s clip.
Same method for all : Sample of noise and denoising.
Test with :
Goldwave 5.25
iZotope 1.08 (Method C, full quality, slow).
Audacity 1.3.7
All where used with default seeting, except Goldwave
where i've put FFT to max.

Goldwave, even not bad, seems less good than the 2 others.
But, in audio quality, i dont realy see a difference between the
2 others.
But in speed !!!!
Goldwave and Audacity where instantaneous, but iZotope take
around 30s on my Intel i7 965 (all the 8 processeurs where
equaly charged at around 20%-30%).
So, Lugarimo, if you confirm that you think Audacity is better,
my choice is made.

WHAT was your choice again? All you say in your post is they are all equal except processing speed. Edit: I experimented a little with izotope and Audacity. Audacity won the first few rounds but then I fine-tuned izotope to the maximum and most time-consuming settings and it was audibly better quality than Audacity (but takes ten times longer to process.) I'll be happily using izotope from now on. Thank you again for pointing me to it.

I installed the Vocal eraser (it seems to originally be a plugin for izotope so it installed there, what a coincidence!!) but I can't find it anywhere in the Sound Forge 9.0 interface. Help?
