Optimising after CPU upgrade (GPU now redundant?)

Post by remy »

Having upgraded CPU from Intel Q8300 to I5-2500 and re-running the benchmark tests in CS6, I now find that the optimum combination is 4 CPU cores and zero GPU cores. Is my (nearly new) Quadro K600 now redundant? Do I need a better graphics card? I have 8GB ram and mobo chipset has changed from P45 to Z77 (i.e. PCIe v1.0 x16 to PCIe v2.0 x16).

What CUDA drivers should I be using ODE, Performance, etc?

Fantastic product, worth every penny. I'm restoring a back-catalogue of 500 or so 30 year old film slides. Could not have restored them to the same quality without NEAT Image.

Any advice much appreciated. I'm a newbie to photo restoration.

Some GPUs are indeed slower than modern CPUs, so your results are not necessarily abnormal. Still, I recommend to upgrade the video drivers to the very latest available version and run Optimize again. If the speed does not change there then the card is likely running at its best speed already and the only way to catch up with the CPU is to install a newer card. For example, GTX 780 Ti is pretty good in terms of speed.
