IPTC tags/keywords removed when converting from TIFF to JPEG

Post by tompagenet »

I seem to have a bug that I can reproduce.

* Create a TIFF with embedded tags/keywords (I've used Lightroom 2.5)[/list]
* Open this file in Neat Image and once processing is complete
save as a JPEG
* The output file will have EXIF data preserved, but IPTC tags are missing

This problem does not occur if a JPEG is imported into Neat Image and saved as a JPEG, nor if a TIFF is imported and saved as a TIFF.

This is a tad annoying as I use Neat Image after I've processed in Lightroom, but want to pass the highest quality images to Neat Image (so I use TIFF)

This is a documented (in the user guide) limitation of the file format support in the current version of Neat Image (standalone) for Windows. Page 54:
The EXIF data are copied with the following combinations of input and output file types: JPEG->JPEG, JPEG->TIFF, TIFF->TIFF, and TIFF->JPEG. The IPTC data are copied with the following combinations: JPEG->JPEG and TIFF->TIFF.
Therefore, I recommend to save into TIFFs if you process TIFFs.

Hope this helps,
Vlad
