FCPX 10.0.9: Catch-22 with a Freezing/Crashing Project

Hi,

I have a Retina MacBook Pro. I have a project in FCPX 10.0.9 that is around 5 minutes long.

It is mainly composed of a multi-cam clip, but has a few cutaway shots overlaid on top of the multi-cam, all of which is wrapped in a compound clip.

I don't consider this especially complex, considering the software should be able to edit feature films if it lives up to the hype.

I've applied NeatVideo to both the two video angles of the multi-cam clip and the project (painstakingly created over a number of weeks) now seems to be caught in a Catch-22 situation.

When I load FCPX, all my current projects load in the project viewer successfully, with nothing queued to render (the counter is a green 100%).

When I enter this particular project though, it recognises that the entire project needs to render with NeatVideo (it's yet to do this), the progress counter then begins the rendering process at 0% and within a couple of seconds FCPX seizes/freezes up with a spinning beach ball.

Right-clicking the app icon or opening the 'force quit' menu shows that the application is not responding. I can leave it like this for 2 minutes or 2 hours and nothing seems to happen.

I believe that FCPX is simply overloaded with the demand.

However, because the project seizes before I have the opportunity of opening the compound clip in question, I'm not actually able to turn off NeatVideo to prove my theory and rescue the project.

Instead, I just seem to be stuck in a loop.

I've tried duplicating the project and opening it again: the same things happens.

I've tried changing the height of the timeline clips to the smallest possible and have even tried removing the audio/visual previews in the timeline altogether by switching as quickly as possible to the simplest timeline view option. However, it still freezes.

How can I get out of this loop?!

I'm tempted to finally upgrade to FCPX 10.1.1 but at the same time, I'm nervous about the project/event/file structure changes, so would rather exhaust all my other options before I do this.

Any help will be much appreciated! :-)

Thanks.

I think you can break the loop in the following way:

1. uninstall Neat Video using this app:
/Applications/Neat Video for Final Cut/Uninstall.app

2. start FCPX, open that project and disable instances of Neat Video in it

3. you can close FCPX and re-install Neat Video; starting FCPX and opening that project should not cause problems now that Neat Video instances are inactive
