Vista 64 bit with Vegas 8.1... Neat x64 drivers?

Post by VanLazarus »

When will there be Neat x64 drivers for Vegas 8.1?

I've upgraded everything to take advantage of this faster version, but can't use the great Neat plugin within this setup. :(

Well, I guess Vegas developers have to update the software development kit (not updated since 2003-2004) to support new features of Vegas like the 64-bit version. Without that kit updated, plug-in developers cannot do much to support these features...

Vlad, it seems to me that you are angry at Sony Creative Software. But others have developed plug-ins for Vegas 64 bit (for exampleNew Blue),, so it is possible. This topic has been discussed on the Sony Vegas Forum, see:

Here is an example of why the SDK should be updated. There are also certain new features in new versions of Vegas that are not reflected in the old SDK. 64 bits may not really require an update but given the general poor support from the side of Vegas developers regarding the abovelinked issue, I expect the same kind of issues if we jump into 64-bit development for Vegas right away. I am not saying we are not going to do that eventually, but I am sure it is not going to be easy thanks to non-updated SDK and general lack of support. Just think about it: it took me several months to get a reply from engineers at Sony Creative Software about the frame issue...

So, we do have this in our development plans but I am not promising anything soon just because my previous experience with Vegas support has tought me to be extremely cautios about this plug-in host.

P.S. BTW, we do have, for example, a 64-bit version of Neat Image for Photoshop and I can say it has been quite simple to develop it because Adobe regularly updates their SDK and generally supports plug-in developers. That does make a difference.
