Very Slow Sharing (and Rendering) in FCPX 10.4

Post by Jelly Pops »

Any advice to speed up the process? Sharing 4k footage in an 1080 timeline takes forever.

Rendering/exporting 4k frame size will take longer than 1080 frame size.
When you set up the Neat Video in that video clip, which frame size
is reported by Neat Video window (in the lower right part of the viewer)?

3840 X 1080

Should it be in 1080, even though it IS 4k footage? The timeline is 1080i.

Thank you for your time and thought!

FCPX may decide to render in higher resolution if it wants to, and then the plug-in would be given frames (fields in this case)
in the higher resolution too. In this case it is a field (half size of the frame): 3840 x 1080.
If it was a progressive sequence, it would show the whole frame: 3840 x 2160.

Have you done the Optimize Settings test in Neat Video Preferences (Performance page)?
Try to run it in 3840x2160 mode and in 1920x1080 mode to compare the speeds.

Thank you,

I'm not sure what I'm doing---or, rather, I don't know what I'm doing, but here are two screen shots.

Please click the Optimize Settings button and then start the test in that window. It will measure the speed of every combination of the CPU cores and GPU. You can then accept the best result to achieve the best processing speed available on that hardware.

OK, I THINK this is saying that Neat Video would work faster (4 fps, as opposed to 1) if I change settings to 1080i, as opposed to 4K, no?

So, I need to change the settings to 1080i before applying Neat Video effect?

Still shows 4k in right hand corner of main interface. And even if the 1080i approach "held," rendering is still glacial in FCPX. Takes forever to even start rendering.

Have a feeling my Neat Video settings in general might be off, off, offf

1. If you open Neat Video window in FCPX and Neat Video window shows the size of field 3840x1080, then that means FCPX works in 4k resolution.
Try to adjust the settings of the project to make FCPX work in 1920x1080 resolution instead.

2. Please try to export to 1920x1080 format. Will it render faster?

The 4K clip is in a 1080i timeline. (1920 X 1080, 29.97i)

I highlight the 4K clip, though, when I need Neat Video. And it chooses 4K frame

You can force FCPX to process that clip in 1080 resolution (instead of 4K) in the following way:

1. Please select a clip and in the menu
File > New > Compound clip...
and set the required resolution (1080i in this case).

2. Then please add this compound clip to your project.

3. Add the Neat Video effect to the compound clip in the Timeline, open the plug-in window and check the field size.
It should be 1920x540.

Yes. 1920 x 540

Any recommendation for optimal settings? I did the speed test in optimization mode, and just chose what it recommended

If you accepted the best combination found by Optimize, then that is the best possible setup for that hardware, video frame size and filter settings.
