Noise profiles

Post by jpsdr »

Hello.
Is it possible to use/import v4 noise profile in v5, or does it need to be redone ?

If v4 profiles were saved with the noise sample (see the option in Neat Video Preferences > Profiling), then v5 will be able to open, auto-convert and use those. However it may be a good idea to just build new ones in v5 for better accuracy.

If i've build the noise profile, manual fine tune, and finaly saved with the noise sample.
Will all the manual fine tune part be kept, or do i have to redo this manual fine tune part ?
My "issue" is that often it tooks me a long time to find a proper noise sample which will be used as base (and after manual fine tune to finalize).
So if re-opening the v4 profile with the noise sample inside will be the same than using the same area in the video as noise sample base, it's allready a good thing.

Yes, those fine-tunings will be preserved too.

I realise my post, maybe, wasn't specific enough.
I was talking all along about converting v4 profile in v5.

Because if v5 uses the noise sample inside the v4 profile to rebuild the noise profile, how it could be less accurate than building the noise profile using the exact same video area to create a noise profile... except if the manual fine tune parts are lost ?

No, manual fine-tuning is not lost, so it should be good.

In that case, I don't understand why you've said "However it may be a good idea to just build new ones in v5 for better accuracy." ?
Can you explain specificaly between :
- Importing v4 noise profile to v5
- Rebuilding the noise profile in v5 using the same area (+ several manual fine tune to cover all the ranges)
why the last provide would provide better accuracy ?
I'm a little lost here...

When you build a new noise profile in v5 and you use Auto Profile and let it find a good area automatically, v5 does that better than v4, it can look for such areas in several frames and use the best one even if it is in one of the adjacent frames. That gives v5 a good chance of using a better area and therefore building overall better (more accurate) profile than v4 could do in the same situation (assuming both are used in automatic mode -- letting Auto Profile choose the area).

Is it normal that the size of the .dnp file goes down from 250k to 150k, when i open a nv4 noise profile in nv5, and then save it ?
The option to save the noise sample is active.

Yes, that is normal. v5 has additional limits on the size of the opened/re-saved profile from older version.

But... There is no loss of data... :?:

The data of the profile itself is safe. What is reduced is the size of the image sample.

Ah... Meaning that if one day there is a v6... It's better that i import v4 instead of v5 created from v4 ?

Is this size reduction of image sample specific to importing from previous version, and doesn't occur in case of noise profile directly created with v5 ?

Yes, for v6 it may be a bit better to convert from the original v4 ones.
We will likely remove that minor limitation in one of the updates of v5.

Yes, it only takes place in case of import of older profiles.
