Edius plugin 8 bit only ?

Post by Robert_nj »

Dear,
I am thinking of buying your nice software.
But when I have tried demo version I have seen only 8 bit in my Edius Workgroup 9.
How is it please?
I have been using slog contents and 10 bit it is absolutely important for me.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Hello Robert,

Unfortunately there is not much we can do about 10-bit color support in Edius because the source of problem lies in Edius itself. Edius' plug-in interface does not offer full 10-bit support (there is only partial support that is not sufficient for Neat Video) so Neat Video plug-in cannot receive all necessary input frames in 10-bit precision. Edius provides only 8-bit data to Neat Video. To lift this limitation, Edius developers should improve the plug-in interface of Edius. We asked them to do that several times over the years, but so far nothing changes in that part of Edius as far as I know.

Many other video editing applications currently work in 32-bit color and the corresponding Neat Video plug-ins do support that because those applications do offer full 32-bit support in their plug-in interfaces. Unfortunately that part is missing or insufficient in Edius.

Kind regards,
Vlad

Dear Vlad.
Thank you for your explanation. I have not know that...
It is absolutely shame because Edius is very good software. And I like it
So I will try to write that to Edius support.

Thank you one more time and have a nice day.

Dear Vlad.

This I got from GrassValley support team:
"Neat video requires some special method to work in 10 bit. We unfortunately don't have a way to provide it at this time. This could change in the future but we cannot commit to a change or a timeframe."

Is there some other way?
What about OFX?

Thank you and have a nice day.

Hi Robert,

Neat Video supports high-bitdepth rendering in programs that support it. These applications include After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut, Motion, Vegas Pro, Media Composer, Resolve and OpenFX host applications.

Dear Vlad,
I know...But I am talking about Edius version...
Do Edius team need something special from you? Is it true?
I want to know where is problem only...
It is very bad situation and it is shame.

So can you do OFX version for Edius?

Thank you and have a nice day.

The Edius team should add full support for higher-than-8-bit image data in the interface offered by Edius to plug-ins. The existing support is not full, in all existing versions of Edius. It may be sufficient to let some simpler plug-ins receive 10-bit data from Edius but it is not sufficient for more complext temporal plug-ins like Neat Video. The Edius team knows what is not fully supported on their side, we discussed that with them in the past.

The OFX support is also not complete in Edius, as far as I know.

I don't know if it would easier for the Edius team to complete the native Edius interface or to improve the OFX interface. Once that is done, we can then do our part to support higher bit depth from the side of one of Neat Video plug-ins to be used with Edius.

The ball is on the side of Edius now.

Thank you,
Vlad
