Preview looks very different from effect on video
Preview looks very different from effect on video
When I open Neat Video on a clip in Final Cut Pro, the preview looks significantly different than the clip does in my timeline before or after the effects of Neat Video are applied. The preview is always more saturated, and it also seems to have more definition/clarity. Sometimes I actually like the way it looks but can't seem to get the clip in my timeline to look the way the preview window suggests it will.
Here is a photo showing what I mean: http://imgbox.com/CuVVe0eV
Thanks for any help. I'm pretty new to Neat Video and am trying to watch tutorials, but nothing seems to address this.
Final Cut Pro 10.4.8
Neat Video 5.2.3
16" MacBook Pro (2019) on OS 10.15.4

Re: Preview looks very different from effect on video
Please use the preview window to evaluate the reduction of noise and perhaps sharpness too (if you apply any sharpness adjustment inside Neat Video). Neat Video does not change the saturation, color, brightness, etc. Its viewer may display somewhat different colors because it may use a slightly different color profile than the host application. For this reason, that preview should not be considered the final result in terms of color. The final colors are only visible in the host application and they are expectedly the same as in the original image (since Neat Video does not change the colors of the image).
Regarding clarity/definition of preview in the host application, please make sure you compare the preview in the same 100% zoom in both FCP and Neat Video, so that the host application would not apply any upscale/downscale interpolation that can easily make the image less sharp.
Thank you,
Vlad

Re: Preview looks very different from effect on video
Hi, I'm having this trouble too.
There are situations where it is more obvious, in my example you can tell the difference between left (final cut preview) and right (neat video)
Neat video preview is less soft, edges are sharper.
This difference in details is a huge difference in faces
please check images. need help
Things I tried:
FC preview quality is in "original" (there is no proxy at all)
I've tried moving Coloring Effects under "neat Video" the result is even worst
in the pictures above, the zoom has been IN to match each other, so there is no smaller scale effect
macOS, FC and NV plugin are latest updates
I'm on a Mac Studio

Re: Preview looks very different from effect on video
Please create a fresh new test project with just one clip and just one effect (Reduce Noise v5 (SR)) applied to it. Please check whether the problem is reproducible in that case. If it is reproducible, please export that test project as XML (FCP's menu File > Export XML) and upload that file with the source clip to https://wetransfer.com/ for us. We will check what is going on in the test project and what is causing the issue.
Thank you,
Vlad

Hi, thanks.
the problem persist.
I don't use to import the footage to the FC Library, should I include the original footage?

Re: Preview looks very different from effect on video
You can send the files using any other way that you prefer. Just make sure you include the project file and source clip so that we had all required input data to reproduce the issue right after importing that into our FCP.
Thank you,
Vlad
