New features : Input Scan type

Post by jpsdr »

Hello.

I've finaly got the time to install v6, and read the manual to check the part i saw in the description of the new features : adapt for HDR video.

There is something i don't understand : HDR videos are darker than SRD videos when displayed on computer "not properly", which is exepected, as if you check the histogram, you can seen that the datas are more in the low values.
In the user manual, you said that for HDR video, NV apply a gain of 0,25 to 1.0, meaning the values are reduces even more and are darker ???
I don't understand the idea with this. I must said that i was on the opposite expecting a >1.0 gain.... :?:

A gain adjustment is usually suggested by Neat Video when a clip has very bright areas. The gain adjustment would help to avoid clipping and keep those very bright areas accessible for accurate noise analysis and noise reduction. The frame itself would indeed look darker in the viewer for the time of profiling and previewing (this can be addressed using the brightness adjustment of the viewer itself) but that would help to preserve very bright areas and more accurately analyze the noise across the whole range.

P.S. The subject should probably be gain adjustment, not input scan type.
