Problem installing Neat Video

Post by Areles » Sun Dec 30, 2007 7:38 am

I just purchased the program, after having tested the demo version (which ran smoothly). But as of yet I am unable to install the new Pro version just purchased. When I install I receive an error message:

unable to register DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be. I've checked the RegSvr32 and it is running fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please make sure you uninstall any previous version of Neat Video plug-in using the same Windows account you used to install it. For example, if you installed as administrator then uninstall as administrator. Otherwise, installing a new version in another account will not work because of Windows restrictions.

Hope this helps,

Unfortunately, I'm experiencing the same problem.

Uninstalled the program, using the unins000.exe. At reinstall...same problem.

Help!

Thanks.

Which account did you use to install it originally? Which account to uninstall? Which to re-install?

It worked

Uninstalling from the Administrator profile did the job. Thanks so much!

RegSvr32 Error

Post by bjrohner » Sat May 03, 2008 2:15 pm

Unable to register DLL/OCX RegSvr32 Failed with exit code OX5

Windows XP SP2 I tried to update Premier and Vegas Versions to 2.2

Premier loaded as it should. Vegas gives me the error. Tried everything registry clean, reboot, restore, safe mode etc. I'm the only user and administrator so that's not the problem. As far as I can tell, the uninstall
completed sucessfully to begin with. There's nothing left in the folder but
presets and profiles.

I can uninstall and reinstall Premier version at will. I cannot install any of
the Vegas versions. Naturally, I'm right in the middle of processing old video
clips. Could sure use some help.

Thanks
Bob

Please try to drag the NeatVideoSV.dll file (from the Neat Video installation folder, typically, C:\Program Files\Neat Video for Sony Vegas\) and drop it into the main window of Sony Vegas.

Vegas will ask you to confirm that you really want to register the plug-in. Please answer Yes to proceed. If this fails, try to choose to unregister first.

Hope this helps.

Unable to register

Post by bjrohner » Sat May 03, 2008 4:09 pm

Since I uninstalled the old version, The folder your talking about does not exists.

By letting the setup program run all the way up to the warning message, a folder is created and I dragged the NeatVideoSV.dll out onto the desktop.

The folder disappears when I hit abort and the installation was rolled back.

I dragged the file on my desktop onto Vegas and it would offer to register or not register it, but would actually neither register nor unregister.

In regedit I can see a NeatVideoSV.dll entry but I'm afraid to delete it.

Deleting this one will not help anyway.

The problem is that Windows still keeps the registration of the old NV DLL and doesn't allow you/installer to change that registration. That error message means Windows doesn't allow to change the DLL registration (it doesn't matter that the file itself is already not there). The only currently known reason for such an effect is the abovementioned mismatch of Windows accounts used to install/uninstall/re-install the plug-in.
Perhaps there is something else. Or there was an indeed some mismatch. Perhaps system restore contibuted.

I will ask my colleagues here to check what could be done to overcome that Windows system.

Thanks

In your discussions, remember that there is no problem at all with the
Premier upgrading, only Vegas.

Bob,

Premiere version does not need registration, only Vegas one does, so it is all as expected. The only unknown thing at the moment is why your copy of Windows doesn't allow itself to change the registration of the DLL.

Please try to search for NeatVideoSV.dll on the whole hard drive of your computer. There may be an odd copy somewhere that could cause that problem.

Another possibility is that there is some software (that you are using or have used) that has modified the registry access permissions so that even the administrator account could write there. That could make RegSvr32 fail. Try to disable any such software (could be an antivirus, firewall, registry-related utilities, etc.) and/or undo the changes they have done to the registry access permissions. If this doesn't help or there is simply no such software on your computer then it is also possible that incorrect permissions are a result of unsuccessful install/upgrade of another software (in particular, of some system software updates like those installed by Windows Update). Anyway, there is a technical method (offered by a Microsoft specialist) that allows an administrator to reset the registry permissions to their defaults. This method is known to help resolving such "RegSvr32 Failed with exit code 0x5" issues. You may want to try it, but make sure you closely follow the instructions provided there.

Hope this helps,

NeatVideoSV.dll

Post by bjrohner » Sun May 04, 2008 1:27 pm

Thanks for all your time and efforts. None of the above worked. It's been a couple of years since I rebuilt my system. Until I have a week to do it, I can
process the movie clips with premier. Terrible blow to my productivity but
obviously an error in my system somewhere.

Keep up the good work

I will now e-mail you a version that doesn't try to register on install. If your copy of Windows keeps old registration then the plug-in should work in Vegas after you install this version.
