Frequency

Post by ablankertz »

Numerically, how are each of the frequency bands defined? And more importantly, what frequencies do I need to pay attention to for a certain degree of image magnification in a final print?

E.g. I scan a 35mm negative at 4000 dpi. Which frequencies are most important -both filtering and sharpening- for an 8x10 print, and which ones for a 13x19?
What would be different if I scanned at 2000 dpi or used a 4MP camera?

Usually you don't need to calculate any of the numbers because NI does take care about all this. Moreover, if attention should be paid to certain frequency range, then NI does this too. What frequency ranges deserve this attention depends not so much on image magnification but on the properties of noise, which NI analyzes during profiling. You can easily see what frequency ranges contain more noise using the profile viewer window (Ctrl+I). NI automatically adjusts itself on the basis of this information about noise.
