I find the 60 by 60 minimum selection to build a profile limiting.
Sometimes this is not possible. It would be good to have non square selections,distortable to parallelograms or trapeziods to make up the minimum sample area.

NI needs a rectangular area to analyze. Making it small, irregular, distorted, etc. leads to less accurate filtration. Easier solution is to use another image. - You can take a sample from another image if current one has no large featureless areas. There are many options: http://www.neatimage.com/profiling.html
