Different resolution so probably different CCD?
Until I can find the time what kind of results should I expect if I use the G3 (4 megapix) profile with my G5 (5 megapix)?
Good? Bad? Worse than useless?

I wouldn't expect good results from such a trick.
Consider building your own profiles for G5. This will give you much better results, I am sure.
