"A Win32 API function failed"

Post by taob »

  1. Settings: advanced mode, do not create new job on start
  2. Fire up NeatImage 4.1 Pro Plus. You should be at the Queue window.
  3. Click on "New". A dialog box saying "A Win32 API function failed" pops up.
  4. Click "OK", and the file selection dialog should come up.
  5. Subsequent attempts will not result in the error, until you quit out of NI and restart it.

Hrm, I must have a couple of cursed systems then, at least when it comes to running NeatImage. ;) I tried the same sequence on my laptop, and I get a more detailed error message:

Win32 Error. Code: 1411.
Class does not exist.

Do you still observe this error message with the latest version of Neat Image?

Thank you,

Yes, still seeing the same behaviour with version 4.2.0.0.

It looks like you use WinXP with disabled themes. Is this correct? - Probably the error is related to that.

I am running with the "Windows Classic" theme on both my desktop and laptop. I may have the Theme Manager disabled on just my laptop, which could explain the difference in error messages. However, the Theme Manager is active on my desktop, but the dialog box still appears.

However, I did try switching back to the default Windows XP theme (with the blue task bar and the chunky buttons), and the error no longer appears! Please don't make me go back to using the Windows XP theme. I hate it. :( ;-)

Thank you for checking that. Looks like the problem is related to Neat Image's interactions with Windows themes. We will try to reproduce this effect to see what can be done.

I use themes on my computer, not the default Windows XP color scheme but Silver (available in the list of color schemes). It looks much better to me.

Hmmm...I am running NeatImage 4.2 on Windows XP with the Classic theme as well, and I do not have any issues (i.e., no DLL errors).
Cheers,

I also don't have it. However we have found what caused this trouble and will fix it in the nearest update.

I have confirmed that NeatImage 4.25 no longer has this problem on either my desktop or laptop XP systems! Once again, an excellent example of the high level of customer service here! :D
