If you have a scanner that doesn't allow you to alter the focus, should you blur the image in photoshop /paint shop pro before printing it or does it need to be done at the scanning stage?
Would the grayscale or colour profile be better for profiling a scanner?

Both color and grayscale target would be same good.
To make an out-of-focus scan, put something on the scanner glass under the target so that paper would be few mm away from the glass. This will make the scan out of focus.
