Non-rectangular sample selections

Post by Mark »

Not sure if this has been asked for previously (I had a look & couldn't see it) - or maybe it's even already possible? Anyway, my suggestion is to allow non-rectangular (i.e. polygon) sample areas. Often there is a reasonably large area of solid color available, but if you are limited to selecting a rectangle you end up having to select a relatively small area because you have to fit the rectangle in it.

Yes, we discussed that some time ago.

The selection must be rectangular, this is a feature of the noise analysis algorithm.

Usually you can go around the size limit by using another image (for example, a shot of of the Calibration Target) to build an initial profile and by fine-tuning this profile to the input image you work with. Fine-tuning allows smaller areas for analysis than building a fresh new profile so once you have a reasonable profile built with the Calibration Target you can easily fine-tune it even if the available featureless areas are not very large.

Hope this helps. Thank you for the suggestion too.
