Screen target or printed target?

I just upgraded from 4.5 to 5.25, and generated profiles for my Olympus E-1. One thing I didn't understand: Why is the calibration target on the screen colored, with magenta and green squares, but the printed target is black and white? Is there some difference in the accuracy of the two? Is it better to use the screen target if I can get a picture without banding?

Also, does it matter if the color balance of the calibration target picture is a little too warm (I used tungsten light, and my auto white balance left the picture about 300K too warm)?

The new profiles seem to work well, so you're probably going to say "don't spend too much time on this."

The difference is simply because most printers are black&white, while if you shoot off the screen then you can shoot in color. There is no big difference in performance of either type of target.

Anyway, we have two ready-made sets of targets: color and grayscale. You can find them at this page.
