Better to make my own profiles for a digitial camera?

Post by TheMightyZog »

Hi,

I've just purchased NeatImage+ as I am so impressed.

I wonder if I will get better results by making my own profiles for my digital cameras, rather than use the ones on the web site.

I ask this question, because I assume that the response for a specific model of a camera will not necessarily be consistent.

True or false?

Second question is whether the colour balance settings will make the slightest difference to noise reduction.

My cameras are a Nikon D70 and Coolpix 990

Thanks

Chris,

Yes, we do recommend to build your own profiles because such custom profiles would better reflect the specifics of your camera(s) and workflow than the profiles built by other people. Every camera is slightly different and workflows of two people can be even more different.

Regarding the colour balance, this makes a slight difference in noise properties, but only slight, so it is up to you to decide whether you want to build separate profiles for different colour balances because there are several other more influential parameters like ISO, compression level, sharpening settings.

Hope this helps.
