Match and Quality.

Post by Niman »

What is the importance of matching?

For instance if I get a match of 75% and quality of 100% on one picture will there be any perceivable difference in another picture if I get a match of 100% and quality of 100% assuming I use the same preset for both pictures?

There certainly may be a visible difference. A lower than 100% match means the camera shooting mode was not exactly the same when the input image and the image used to build the noise profile was produced. Because of that, the noise properties may be somewhat different in those two images and the noise profile build using one of them may be less than optimal to process the other one.

So why does it say that the quality is 100% on both pictures?

What does quality actually signify?

The Quality is the profile quality, not picture quality. It shows how accurate is the noise profile itself, irrespective of its relation to the current input image (which is characterized by the Match indicator).

Gotcha - my misunderstanding.

I thought it was the quality of the image after NR had been applied compared to the original.

Are there any indicators on Neat Image which show this reationship?

No, because the quality of output image can be only estimated by human observer.
