Why do some reviews say that NI is slow

Post by Stan Schurman »

While reviews of NI that I have read generally praise it, many of them also say it is slow to process an image. Am I missing something here? I've only been using it for a few days, but I find that, at default settings, it takes 10 seconds or less from the time I click on Apply until the image is ready.

It used to be slower in 2001-2002 but then we significantly improved the speed of the filter. Also, as multi-core processors became available, we optimized Neat Image to utilize all available cores and thus made it even faster. So today it is already pretty quick, and yet we continue to work on further optimizations to improve performance. However, our primary goal is the filtration quality so if we have to spend more processing time on achieving better quality, we prefer to do that rather than speeding up at expense of image quality.

I agree, quality is primary.
