Hi,
What is the best way to preserve detail in an image such as hair and birds feathers etc during the noise reduction process ?

Does Neat image do this automatically during the noise reduction and sharpening process ?

Neat Image does try to automatically distinguish details from noise and reduce only noise. To help it make that distinction, you can try to build a more accurate noise profile. An accurate noise profile is the key to accurate noise reduction (read preserving details). You may want to see the user guide, the section Device Noise Profiles, to learn more about noise profiling.
