What to do if noise differ ?

Post by jpsdr » Wed Sep 10, 2008 7:51 am

Hello.

I've a question. I've a video where sometime there is noise on
frames, sometime there is no noise at all.
When there is noise, it's always "the same", so , a build profile for
the noisy part can easely be build.
Of course, the noise/no noise are so mixed, that it's impossible to
split and process them separately. The mix is not something that
one frame with noise, another without, but it's one full sequence/scene
with noise, the next scene/sequence without noise. I don't understand
how it has been done...
So, if i build a noise profile of the noisy part, and apply the filter to all
the video, what will happend ?
Do you have a suggestion of how to parameter NV to process the whole
file correctly ? Maybe building the noise profile sampling from the noisy
and no noisy part ? Or building the noise profile from noisy part and
customising settings ? Or maybe it's simply not possible ?
Or... something else ?

Thanks.

You could try to use key frames to logically separate the clip into scenes and then customize NV profile in each scene. If you use a modern video editing application (like premiere or vegas) then it should be possible to apply different filter settings (meaning different profiles in case of NV) to parts of one clip based on key frames. You may want to check the documentation of your video editing application to see if it supports key frames.

Hope this helps,

I use VDub, and it's not possible to separate each scene, as i want to
process episodes of 25 minutes each, considering a scene sequence
is around 10 to 20 seconds, i want to process 24 episodes.... NO !!!!!!!!
Your solution is irrealist.

Is there an other ?
What will happen to the clean parts if they are processed with
the noise profile of the noisy part ?

Thank.

You can split the clip into subclips for each scene.

You can try to enable adaptive filtration in the filter settings, this may help a bit.

If you filter a clean part with a noisy profile then you may lose some details, but adaptive filtration may help to avoid that. Try it.

Hello.

As i said, split the clip for each scene wil easely make around 150 to 200
clip for each vidéo, taking hours, even days to make this for one vidéo,
and doing this for 24 videos..... I've not all that luxuary time, even the
will to do it (it'l make finaly around 4000 to 5000 clips !!!!).

But, thanks for your answer and suggestion, that what was i thought
i will do : build a profile on the noisy part, and try adaptative.
I'll keep this in mind for when i'll do this specifics videos.
