Freehand Noise Area Sampling

So many more areas could be used for sampling if we could freehand draw an outline instead of being restricted to rectangles. Is this a matter of programming "simplicity" or can this be a new feature?

The noise analysis algorithms require a rectangular area for analysis, so an arbitrary shape would not be fully useful (it would have to be cropped anyway).
