meaning of values in noise profiles

Post by tomsb »

I am interested in using neat image device noise profile to find the best calibration of my cameras and film scanners for noise reduction .

Do the numbers have meaning from one profile generation to another .

Do the numbers in analysed noise sample viewer apply to the whole profile or just the original selection .

What do the values mean for each line ie :
profile , Y ,Cr , Cb , etc. .

The numbers reflect the estimations of the noise levels as measured by the analysis process. The numbers in Profile viewer are absolute, which means for example, in this profile, the level of noise in Y channel is, say, 6.54 units, and in that profile it is, say, 8.65 units, thus telling us that the second profile corresponds to a noisier image (at least in Y channel).

The numbers in Profile viewer reflect the noise levels of all analysed image areas for the values of Profile, High, Mid, Low, Very low. Only the primary analysis area is reflected by the channel noise level figures.

Hope this helps.
